Flexibility

The UK Has It All

You can study at a long-established university or a newer campus with specialist facilities. Both sit in the same national system, so the choice is about the course and the city, not whether the qualification will be recognised.

Routes in include a foundation year, a pathway, and pre-sessional English before the degree starts. A bachelor’s degree often takes three years, and a master’s can take one, which keeps the total cost of studying down.

If you want work experience built into the degree, look for a sandwich course. You alternate between classes and a longer placement, then return to finish the qualification.

Proof of English proficiency in the UK

If you study at a university or other higher-education provider, that institution checks your English. The score they ask for depends on the course, so read the program page before you apply.

Tests that UK universities commonly accept include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge C1 Advanced, and Duolingo English Test. Your offer letter is the list that matters for your application.

Experience

Work While Studying and After Graduation

For most international students, a great education abroad is a stepping stone to an exciting lifelong career. In the UK, full-time international students in an undergraduate or graduate course can work up to 20 hours per week during their study term. Many study programs also offer placements and internship opportunities, giving you crucial early experience working in your specific field.

Then, when your studies finish, the UK’s recently refined Graduate visa allows international student graduates of a degree course to live and work in the UK for two years if they apply by 31 December 2026, or 18 months if they apply from 1 January 2027. PhD graduates get three years. All in all, if you intend to transition your studies immediately into a career, the UK is one of the best places to do so!
