Australia Student Visa Documents: Getting Them Right, Not Just Complete
Having every document on the list is not the same as having a file that survives scrutiny.
The Department of Home Affairs reads your application as one connected story. Documents get flagged for contradicting each other far more often than for being missing. This page is about that second problem, which almost nobody prepares for.

- Passport, valid well beyond your intended stay
- Previous passports if they contain visa history
- National identity documents
- Passport photographs to specification
- Degree certificates and transcripts, HEC-attested
- Intermediate or FSc certificates and mark sheets
- Bonafide certificate from your last institution
- Experience letters where relevant to your course choice
- IELTS, PTE or TOEFL result, valid at the time of decision
- Offer letter

- OSHC policy covering your full stay
- Bank statements covering a meaningful period

Verification
How to verify documents for an Australia student visa
Verification means three separate things, and students usually only do the first.
- Attestation. HEC verification of your academic documents confirms your degree is genuine and recognised. It takes real time, frequently weeks, and it is the item most likely to delay an otherwise ready file. Start it first, not last.
- Internal consistency. Every document has to agree with every other document. This is where most avoidable refusals live.
- Consistency with your statement. Your Genuine Student answers make factual claims. Each one needs a document behind it that says the same thing.

Before you submit, go through your entire file and check these specific things:

Funds
Financial documents get the closest look
Salary slips, FBR returns, experience letters and bank statements sit under more scrutiny than anything else in the file, because this is where fabrication is most common across the market as a whole.
Two things follow from that. Genuine documents still need to be complete and internally consistent, because they are being read suspiciously by default. And a document that has been improved, even slightly, is the fastest way to turn a refusal into something much more serious.

Academics
Academic documents and HEC attestation
HEC verification confirms your qualification is genuine and recognised. The process takes time and cannot be compressed at the end.
Start attestation as soon as you have a shortlist of universities, not once your CoE arrives. Students routinely lose an intake to this one item.
The pass
A pre-submission review, in order
- Lay out every document together.
- Check names, character by character, across all of them.
- Check every date against every other date, and be ready to explain any gap.
- Check every figure against every other figure.
- Read your Genuine Student answers and, for each factual claim, point to the document that proves it.
- Confirm nothing in the file contradicts anything else in it.
- Have someone else do the same pass, because you will read what you meant rather than what is there.
If you are called to an interview, you will be asked about these same facts out loud. A consistent file makes that easy. An inconsistent one makes it a trap.
