Information Technology in Australia: Fees, Entry Requirements and Fit
Information technology is the largest field by applicant numbers from Pakistan: broad entry options, strong demand, and heavy competition.
That combination is why families pick it. Demand helps. A crowded field and a weak Genuine Student story do not.

Fees
What IT costs
Field matters as much as level. Business and arts sit at the lower end; engineering, IT and health sciences run higher.
For a Bachelor's degree, roughly AUD 25,500 to 34,000 a year, regional universities at the lower end and Group of Eight at the higher. An estimate built on the same field, level and tier logic as the cost calculator, not an official fee. Diploma and Master's programmes move that range down or up.
Add living costs of AUD 29,710 for year one, OSHC, and the AUD 2,500 visa fee.
Living costs, OSHC and the visa fee included.
Getting in
Entry requirements
English: IELTS 6.5 overall is standard for most courses, including IT, which is lower than the 7.0 set for nursing. Individual band minimums still apply. See the IELTS guide.
Academic: entry is broader than nursing or engineering. That is why this field draws so many Pakistani applicants, and why a computing, maths or related background is easier to defend than a sudden switch with no trail.
Additional field-specific academic prerequisites are coming soon, from verified seed data.
Always confirm current requirements directly with the university. Requirements vary by course as much as by institution.

After study
PR relevance, without the overclaim
Information technology is broad and consistently in demand, particularly cyber security, software engineering and networking. It is also the most crowded field from this market, which affects invitation competitiveness.
That is relevance, not a guarantee. You still need to graduate, get skilled work in the occupation, pass a skills assessment, and compete for an invitation in a points-tested system. Meeting the minimum points does not get you an invitation when the effective cut-off in a popular occupation sits well above it. See the PR guide and best courses for PR.
Honest fit
Is this field right for you?
IT suits students with a computing, maths or related background, or a work trail that makes a technical Master's look like a continuation rather than a pivot.
It does not suit students choosing it because it is popular and in demand. That combination is exactly why this field is crowded, and a crowded occupation is harder at the invitation stage, not easier.
Your course choice is assessed. A case officer will look at what you studied, what you have done, and what you are applying for, and ask whether they connect. An unexplained field change is a common refusal reason. See the Genuine Student guide.
